Kenya announced today that preparations are officially underway for the upgrade of the Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Mau Summit highway, a major infrastructure project set to begin within days. This development marks an important step in strengthening transport efficiency, regional logistics, and long-term economic growth.

The highway, which connects key economic zones between Nairobi, Naivasha, and the Mau Summit area, is one of the busiest trade corridors in the country. The upcoming upgrade will transform the route into a modern dual-carriageway with improved lanes, better safety features, and new service areas designed to support increased commercial activity.

Government officials confirmed that the project is moving forward after recent technical approvals and coordination meetings. The plan includes widening the road, improving traffic flow, and setting up a structure that will allow faster movement of goods between Kenya’s central region and western markets.

For the business community — especially those involved in logistics, agriculture, manufacturing, and cross-border trade — the project brings strong benefits. Faster transportation will reduce delivery times, lower operational costs, and create a smoother link for goods moving between Kenya, East Africa, and export markets.

Local communities along the corridor are also expected to benefit from new employment opportunities, increased roadside commerce, and safer travel conditions. Engineers and contractors have already begun initial site assessments to prepare for full-scale construction.

This positive development strengthens Kenya’s position as a regional trade hub and signals continued improvement in national infrastructure. For partners across the Arab world and members of the Joint Kenya-Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JKACCI), the upgraded corridor opens new investment prospects in logistics services, transport solutions, roadside facilities, and supply-chain operations.

The highway upgrade marks a strong beginning for Kenya’s ongoing efforts to modernize trade routes and support long-term economic partnerships.
