Kenya’s construction sector received a major boost today as Nairobi authorities announced a new city-wide program promoting sustainable and energy-efficient building practices. The initiative aims to support developers, investors, and construction firms adopting low-carbon technologies, making the capital one of the region’s leaders in green construction.

The announcement comes at a time when Kenya is experiencing steady growth in urban development. Demand for modern residential, commercial, and industrial spaces continues to rise, especially in Nairobi and surrounding counties. The new program focuses on assisting companies to use environmentally friendly materials, improve water conservation, and incorporate renewable-energy systems in new building projects.

According to today’s update, the city will also provide technical guidance to developers who want to integrate solar solutions, natural ventilation designs, green roofing, and smart-energy monitoring into their buildings. This is expected to reduce long-term operational costs while creating a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.

Industry leaders have welcomed the initiative, saying it will make Kenya more attractive for international investors — including partners from the Arab region — who are increasingly prioritizing sustainability in their portfolios. The program also aligns with Kenya’s national efforts to build climate-resilient cities and support environmentally responsible economic growth.

For the Joint Kenya-Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JKACCI), the development opens new opportunities for cross-regional collaboration in construction technology, materials supply, engineering consultancy, and renewable-energy investment. Many Arab companies have already shown interest in green building solutions, and this program is expected to create a stronger business bridge between Kenya and the Arab world.

With Nairobi positioning itself as a model for sustainable urban development in East Africa, today’s announcement marks an important step toward greener growth, innovation, and long-term economic resilience.
