Nairobi, Kenya — 12 September 2025 — United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reaffirmed its strong commitment to supporting Kenya’s infrastructural development and economic transformation, particularly through financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

A high-level delegation led by UBA’s Group Managing Director & CEO, Oliver Alawuba, held discussions with President William Ruto and key government officials at State House, Nairobi. During the meeting, UBA emphasised its continued interest in investing in Kenya’s infrastructure projects and accelerating inclusive economic growth across sectors.

Key points from the meeting include:

  • UBA will partner more closely with the government in financing major infrastructure works.

  • The bank aims to increase funding to SMEs, seeing them as central drivers of job creation and economic resilience.

  • UBA expressed support for Kenya’s long-term economic transformation agenda, aligning with the government’s goals of sustainable development and investment growth.

President Ruto welcomed UBA’s renewed pledge, noting that private sector capital and partnerships are essential to accelerate Kenya’s development. This reaffirmation is a positive signal for both local and foreign investors that Kenya remains an attractive market for investment and that banks are willing to mobilise resources toward strategic sectors.

Why this matters to the Arab-Kenyan business community:

  • Enhanced infrastructure means better connectivity, logistics, and efficiency for trade.

  • More SME financing opens opportunities for smaller and medium Arab-Kenyan joint ventures and suppliers.

  • Stronger banking partnerships help reduce investment risk and build trust in Kenya’s economic environment.
